I think you will be excited to read that the very preliminary results show that LDN - which, it is estimated will cost about $25.00 A YEAR for treatment of HIV patients - to keep them HIV positive, but NOT to advance into AIDS - is positive.
Low-dose-Naltrexone (LDN) is
a cheap generic drug, so no drug company will fund the research. Two years ago, with only a little more than $100,000.00 of the known $300,000.00 estimated for the cost of the study, Jacqueline McCandless, MD and Jack Zimmerman, PhD dedicated their time -- and know that it will take a lot out of their savings - to confirming that LDN can be used to treat HIV positive people. Certainly the donations from
the drug companies to Africa are nice, but, they are reaching perhaps 10% of the victims, and they are given to those who have already dropped into AIDS. LDN is a preventive that boosts the immune system making it possible for patients to live many years without developing AIDS. But there was no research on that. So this is the very beginning results. AND it looks positive; but they also know that diet is important to keep anyone healthy. There are problems of COMMUNICATION that Dr. Zimmerman has been working with. SEX happens everywhere in this world, but it isn't talked about - especially in Mali where women have more rights than Niger - but to be the second country from the bottom of the list world-wide does mean women don't have many rights there. So Jack's work is critical for the success of the project - in Mali and in the world.
Dr. McCandless has already done research on LDN for Autistic Children, and the results of that are available in her book, "Children with Starving Brains." In Mali, Africa, they have enrolled 175 adults, and need another about 9 months before the research can be organized and published.
Meanwhile, we will hope that in a year or two, we will have a treatment to reduce the numbers of HIV patients becoming AIDS patients. If you know of any grant money, the Ojai Foundation has agreed to be the financial collector of money for this Africa Project. Its address is 9739 Ojai-Santa-Paula Road, Ojai, CA 93023. Thank you, thank you, thank you to any of you who already contributed. And all of you, so realize that there are some wonderful things happening in this world, even though there are so many economic problems out there.
The NEXT thing that must be done, is to get a pharmaceutical company in Africa to produce this cheap generic drug. I understand it is not difficult to produce, and there will be a need in Africa, in India and all other areas of the world where people who have contracted the horrible virus need to be treated so HIV positive parents can raise their children and continue as productive members of society. |
