Joint of Temporomandibular  Dysfunction

When a patient experiences pain in the area just in front of the ear – pain or noises usually when chewing, it is called temporomandibular joint dysfunction. It is often treated by dentists who limit their practice to that care. Bruxisim appliances to keep the teeth apart and allow patients to grind on plastic rather than destroy the teeth are the most simple form of treatment. Adjustment of the biting surfaces of the teeth is often necessary. Heat and cold treatments, soft diets, and medication are often needed. Joint surgery now is seldom considered.
